PRIVATE EDUCATION
Private education in Singapore is regulated by Committee for Private Education. All PEIs (Private Education Institutes) operating in and from Singapore must be registered with the CPE under the Enhanced Registration Framework (ERF). The Enhanced Registration Framework (ERF) sets the minimum standards that all Private Education Institutions (PEIs) must meet through the mandatory registration requirements. It included registration of own courses (Cert, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Post graduate diploma) and external degree programs (awarded by foreign institutions).
EduTrust Certification Scheme is a quality assurance scheme administered by the CPE for PEIs in Singapore. The scheme provides a means for better PEIs to differentiate themselves as having achieved higher standards in key areas of management and provision of educational services.
There three types of certifications are as below.
EduTrust Star (Validity Period: 4 Years) is given to a PEI for having excelled in all key areas of management and the provision of quality education services.
EduTrust (Validity Period: 4 Years) given to a PEI for having achieved satisfactory to commendable performance in key areas of management and the provision of educational services.
EduTrust Provisional (Validity Period: 1 Year) given to a PEI which has attained a minimum level of performance in key areas of management and the provision of educational services.
WORKING IN SINGAPORE
Students studying in a Private Education Institute holding a student pass are NOT allowed to engage in any form of employment, paid or unpaid.
For students interested to work in Singapore after graduation, need to apply for work pass as mentioned below.
Employment Pass
The Employment Pass applies to foreigners who have a job offer in a managerial, executive or specialised position with a fixed monthly salary of at least $3,600(older, more experienced candidates need higher salaries), and have acceptable qualifications. Employers must make applications for Employment Passes on behalf of a job candidate.
EntrePass
Foreign entrepreneurs who would like to start businesses in Singapore should apply for the EntrePass. For mid-level skilled workers
S Pass
The S Pass allows mid-level skilled foreigners who earn a fixed monthly salary of at least $2,400 and hold a Degree or Diploma to work in Singapore. Employers must make S Pass applications on behalf of a job candidate. S Pass applications are assessed on multiple criteria including salary, education qualification, skills, job type and work experience.

LIVING IN SINGAPORE
Estimated Living Expense
International students in Singapore spend on average about S$ 600 to S$1,000 a month on living expenses. Amount of expenses varies based upon individual lifestyle and accommodation type.
Accommodation
Most of the students opt for renting a residential unit. One may engage a housing agent to help to look for a property. As a student, living in a hostel may also be a good bet. These are often offer cheap housing from single to multi-bedded rooms, with basic amenities such as laundry services and internet services.
Transportation
Singapore is one of the easiest cities in the world to get around. Its public transportation system is comprehensive, safe, efficient and convenient, not to mention easy on the pocket! Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) & Buses has got most of Singapore covered frequently available from 5:30 am to 12:30 am. To travel on the MRT and Bus, you may either purchase single trip tickets or the more convenient EZ-link card which is a stored value card. EZ-link cards may be purchased or topped up at any MRT/LRT station and bus interchanges.
Taxis or Grab are easy to get via taxi stand or booking via phone. Taxi fares are relatively cheap compared to other major cities in the world though you will need to take note of surcharges for ERP.
Food
Most students especially from India and Sri Lankan students prefers to cook their own meal, which is the helps them to keep the expense affordable. Local favourites include round-the-clock prata shops, food courts, Teochew porridge stalls, or even the 7-11 convenience store which serves up hot food. Several fast food chains also provide a 24-hour Singapore’s delivery service.
Fast food chains like McDonald’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Mos Burger and Komala’s are also readily available. Singapore has the presence of causal dining options and fine dinning restaurants.
Healthcare
Singapore ’s healthcare system has gained an international reputation for impeccable standards, with state-of-the-art medical facilities.These services are also generally accessible and affordable to everyone. Outpatient services are offered by both government polyclinics and private clinics. There are few public hospitals in Singapore comprising of general hospitals, women’s and children’s hospital and psychiatric hospital.
For medical emergencies, you may head straight for a hospital’s Accident and Emergency (A&E) unit. Usually, some form of identification and a doctor’s referral letter (if any) will be requested for. Most of the PEI’s provide medical insurance which is included in the course fees.
